Biography: Xuemin (Sherman) Shen (M’97–SM’02–F’09) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA, in 1990. He is currently a University Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Canada. His research focuses on network resource management, wireless network security, Internet of Things, 5G and beyond, and vehicular ad hoc and sensor networks. Dr. Shen is a registered Professional Engineer of Ontario, Canada, an Engineering Institute of Canada Fellow, a Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellow, a Royal Society of Canada Fellow, a Chinese Academy of Engineering Foreign Member, and a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and Communications Society. Dr. Shen received the R.A. Fessenden Award in 2019 from IEEE, Canada, Award of Merit from the Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals (Ontario) presents in 2019, James Evans Avant Garde Award in 2018 from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, Joseph LoCicero Award in 2015 and Education Award in 2017 from the IEEE Communications Society, and Technical Recognition Award from Wireless Communications Technical Committee (2019) and AHSN Technical Committee (2013). He has also received the Excellent Graduate Supervision Award in 2006 from the University of Waterloo and the Premier’s Research Excellence Award (PREA) in 2003 from the Province of Ontario, Canada. He served as the Technical Program Committee Chair/Co-Chair for the IEEE Globecom’16, the IEEE Infocom’14, the IEEE VTC’10 Fall, the IEEE Globecom’07, the Symposia Chair for the IEEE ICC’10, and the Chair for the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Wireless Communications. Dr. Shen is the elected IEEE Communications Society Vice President for Technical & Educational Activities, Vice President for Publications, Member-at-Large on the Board of Governors, Chair of the Distinguished Lecturer Selection Committee, Member of IEEE Fellow Selection Committee. He was/is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE INTERNET OF THINGS JOURNAL, IEEE Network, IET Communications, and Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications.

Biography: Marco Di Renzo was born in L’Aquila, Italy, in 1978. He received the Laurea (cum laude) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, in 2003 and 2007, respectively, and the Habilitation a Diriger des Recherches (Doctor of Science) degree from University Paris-Sud, France, in 2013. Since 2010, he has been with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), where he is a CNRS Research Director (CNRS Professor) in the Laboratory of Signals and Systems (L2S) of Paris- Saclay University – CNRS and CentraleSupelec, Paris, France. He is a Nokia Foundation Visiting Professor at Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, and an Honorary Professor at University Technology Sydney, Sydney, Australia. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. He served as an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Communications Letters, and as the Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and IEEE Communications Society. He is a recipient of several awards, including the 2013 IEEE-COMSOC Best Young Researcher Award for Europe, Middle East and Africa, the 2013 NoE-NEWCOM# Best Paper Award, the 2014-2015 Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Fellowship, the 2015 IEEE Jack Neubauer Memorial Best System Paper Award, the 2015 CNRS Award for Excellence in Research and Ph.D. Supervision, the 2016 MSCA Global Fellowship (declined), the 2017 SEE-IEEE Alain Glavieux Award, the 2018 IEEE- COMSOC Young Professional in Academia Award, and 8 Best Paper Awards at IEEE conferences (2012 and 2014 IEEE CAMAD, 2013 IEEE VTC-Fall, 2014 IEEE ATC, 2015 IEEE ComManTel, 2017 IEEE SigTelCom, EAI 2018 INISCOM, IEEE ICC 2019). Biography: Jean-Claude Belfiore graduated from Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité (Supelec) in 1985, the "Doctorat" (PhD) from ENST in 1989 and the "Habilitation à diriger des Recherches" (HdR) from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) in 2001. From 1989, he was with the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, ENST, also called “Télécom ParisTech" as a full Professor in the Communications & Electronics department. In 2015, he joined the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab of Huawei as head of the Communication Science Department. Jean-Claude Belfiore has made pioneering contributions on modulation and coding for wireless systems (especially space-time coding) by using tools of number theory. He is also one of the co-inventors of the celebrated Golden Code of the Wi-Max standard. Jean-Claude Belfiore is author or co-author of more than 200 technical papers and communications and has served as advisor for more than 30 Ph.D. students. He was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory for Coding Theory and has been the recipient of the 2007 Blondel Medal. Since November 2015, Jean-Claude Belfiore has joined Huawei Paris Research. He has been involved in the 5G standardization process, essentially in Channel Coding (Polar Codes for 5G). He is now working in wireless communications for “beyond 5G” essentially on the aspects related to Machine Learning.
